Furlong Park School for Deaf Children provides an empowering and inclusive education for deaf children informed by the Victorian Curriculum and the Victorian Early Years and Developmental Framework (VEYLDF). A multidisciplinary team of highly skilled and dedicated staff work in partnership with families to enhance academic and social outcomes, encourage inquiry and help every child to develop a strong sense of identity. Individual Learning Plans are developed and reviewed together with families to support each child’s learning needs and build strengths in communication, literacy, numeracy and social skills. In addition to providing a challenging and accessible curriculum, student learning at Furlong Park is further enhanced with specialist classes in Auslan, Visual Arts and Physical Education and strong community partnerships with programs including Musica Viva and WestSide Circus. The students of Furlong Park also engage in multiple excursions and incursions each year including Deaf Sports Day, interpreted performances at the Victorian Arts Centre and the Christmas Variety Party at the Exhibition Centre – all of which provide culturally enriching experiences.
