Children with a bilateral sensorineural hearing loss of 40 decibels or greater across at least 3 frequencies are eligible to enrol at Furlong Park School for Deaf Children. Transition support is provided for students and their parents when moving both into and out of Furlong Park School for Deaf Children as well as between the pre-school and school and classes within the school.
Kinder to Prep within Furlong Park School for Deaf Children
Students moving from the Early Learning Centre to the Furlong Park School area will participate in a transition program during Term 4. Students will attend a series of sessions in the current Prep class. Activities are designed to encourage students to feel relaxed and comfortable in this new area.
These sessions are designed to have the Kinder children entering Prep at Furlong Park to meet other children in the Early Years and the staff who are likely to work in the area. They are not designed for specific academic learning but are a social and familiarization time.
Furlong Park Kinder to mainstream settings or to other school settings
Students moving from Furlong Park Kinder to mainstream settings will attend the Orientation and/or Transition program set out by the school they will attend the following year. Furlong Park staff will liaise with the relevant schools providing Transition reports, as appropriate.
